Raja Hamayel

Chairperson of Palestinian Businesswomen’s Association (Asala) and Member of Council of city of Al-Bireh (Palestine)

Raja Hamayel is a Palestinian women’s rights activist, lecturer, journalist, novelist, chairperson of the Palestinian Businesswomen’s Association (Asala) and member of the city council Al-Bireh. She writes weekly articles in the Ay-Ayyam newspaper, teaches English at Birzeit University in the West Bank, and has represented the issues and concerns of Palestinian women at numerous national and international conferences. Raja has also worked at various educational institutions in Palestine, including UNRWA schools and training centers. She is committed to the fight against honour killings and to promoting the legal action against them. Raja is a member in the Palestinian National Team represented in the regional discussions on unpaid care work organized by the GIZ project “Womena. From 2021-2023 she was a spokesperson of the Action Network on Forced Displacement
