Shaza Alrihawi is a Syrian human rights advocate, refugee leader facilitator, researcher, and the co-founder of the network Global Independent Refugee Women Leaders (GIRWL). In addition, she is the co-founder of multiple refugee-led organizations, like the Network for Refugee Voices (NRV). Shaza focuses on gender-based violence, LGBTIQA+ rights and statelessness and has advocated for integration, inclusion and peacebuilding across Europe and beyond. She works for the empowerment of displaced populations and their inclusion on the global stage. In 2024, she was a nominee for the Women of Europe Awards 2024. Moreover, she is a former member of the European Migrant Advisory Board, an initiative of the Partnership on Inclusion of Migrants and Refugees of the Urban Agenda for the EU. Shaza has previously worked on sexual and gender-based violence cases for UNHCR in Syria. Prior to that, she worked with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) and the Centre for Strategic Studies in Syria.
